Two Arrested For Sunset Car Burglary, Could Be responsible For Many Others
West U. Police arrested two men around 3 a.m. April 22 for the burglary of a car in the 3500 block of Sunset, and believe the two may be responsible for many of the 20 break-ins that have occurred in the past two weeks.
Both men, 19-year-olds Leonel Garcia and Miguel Mata, have extensive criminal histories for theft and drug offenses, according to police. Mata also has a deportation warrant out of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
According to police, the two broke into the car on Sunset through the key cylinder. Police are now investigating the suspects in connection with other car burglaries in the area.
Police issued a statement to residents last week after a rash of car burglaries, asking resident to use their garage to park their vehicles if possible, and if resident’s have to park in the driveway or on the street, to take all their valuables out of the vehicle.
