TUTS Announces Taylor Hicks To Appear Throughout Houston Run Of ‘Grease’
Theatre Under The Stars has announced that American Idol winner Taylor Hicks will appear as “Teen Angel” in the Houston run of the touring production of “Grease.”
The new Broadway production of the Tony Award nominated musical opens at Theatre Under The Stars on Sept. 8 and will run through Sept. 20 at the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts.
Hicks will appear in all shows, with the exception of the performance on Friday, Sept. 11.
Hicks made his Broadway debut in the role of “Teen Angel” and has been on the road with “Grease” since the tour began in 2008.
“I’m excited to be coming to Houston. It’s a two-week occasion, so I’ll have time to appreciate the culture this city has to offer – from the food, the sports, and especially the music,” Hicks said. “Along with ‘Grease,’ I’ll be performing an acoustic set at Warehouse Live on Sept. 14, so I’m happy to say that I’ll be able to contribute to Houston’s art/music scene. Both ‘Grease’ and the Warehouse gig are events that the whole family can enjoy. I think more than anything, I’m looking forward to seeing my local fans and meeting new ones – Houston’s always been an extremely supportive town.”
Hicks achieved widespread fame in 2006 as a contestant on the hugely successful Fox singing competition American Idol. On May 24, 2006, Hicks was named the winner of the fifth season of Idol with over 63.4 million votes in total. The live finale aired to a worldwide audience of over 200 million viewers.
Tickets start at $24 and are now on sale. They can be purchased online at TUTS.com, by phone at 713-558-8887, outside the Houston area at (888) 558-3882 or in person at the Theatre Under The Stars Box Office in downtown Houston.
