City council to consider your tax rate, flooding, appraised values and more…

The West University Place City Council meets tonight at 6 p.m. in the Municipal Building Council Chamber at 3800 University Blvd.

One item is the decade old matter of whether the city should acquire the so-called “Ownby property” on Pittsburgh Street for parkland.

The following items are also included on tonight’s agenda –

A security briefing by Police Chief Ken Walker.

A discussion of the flooding in the 3800 block of Southwestern Street.

Acceptance of the Certified Appraisal Roll from the Harris County Appraisal District. According to HCAD, the 2015 tax roll for West University Place is $5,085,147,282, an increase from 2014 of 5.57 percent.

Adopting a maximum tax rate for the 2016 budget and setting public hearing dates to hear from citizens about the eventual tax rate.

Scheduling public hearings to ask for citizen commentary about the 2016 budget. The city staff has proposed public hearings on Oct. 5 and 12.
