Talianchich Resigns From Council
Just two months before the May 9 elections, West U. Councilman Michael Talianchich has resigned from council. Talianchich, on his first term, was eligible for reelection in the May 9 election, and previously said he may run for mayor.
City Manager Michael Ross received a letter today from Talianchich, which read in part, “a medical condition has arisen and as a consequence I am immediately resigning my position on council.”
The resignation will be on Monday night’s council agenda, and council will likely choose not to appoint a replacement due to the upcoming election. Current Mayor Bob Kelly is running for his second term as mayor, and councilmen Bob Fry and Chuck Guffey have both filed to run again for council positions. Councilwoman Phyllis Cohen, on her second term, is not eligible for reelection.
George Boehme and Steven Segal have both filed as council candidates, and Sunny Brandtner and Phillip Bryant have picked up candidate packets, but not filed.
The filing deadline is 5 p.m. on March 9. Applications and accompanying documents may be obtained from the city secretary’s office in the Municipal Building, 3800 University Blvd.
The General Election will be held on May 9. Voters will vote for mayor and four council members to serve a two-year term of office. Each position is at-large.
