Suspects Riding Stolen Bikes, Carrying Lawn Equipment
Two men were arrested around 1:10 a.m. Dec. 28 after a resident reported suspicious activity in the 6300 block of Sewanee. The resident told police the suspects were seen walking with lawn equipment, and also riding bicycles. The resident told police the suspects placed three bicycles near bushes at the intersection of Sewanee and Duke, and kept walking with the lawn equipment. Police approached the suspects and discovered the bikes were allegedly stolen from an open garage in the 3400 block of University. The suspects were later charged with felony theft.
On Dec. 28, police received a complaint of a juvenile attacking a sibling. A report was filed for documentation purposes, no charges were filed, and the juvenile is under the care of mental health professionals.
The victim of a car burglary was in luck Dec. 28 when it turned out that the property stolen from his truck was already in police custody and the suspects in jail. The victim called police around 11:10 a.m. to report items stolen from the bed of his truck parked in a driveway. The missing items had been recovered earlier in the day by officers responding to a different call, and the victim was able to reclaim his belongings.
Police pulled over a driver in the 6300 block of Rutgers around 1:43 a.m. Dec. 30 for an expired registration sticker. The driver was arrested when officers discovered the driver had no insurance and had an invalid driver’s license.
Around 7 a.m. Dec. 30, an officer was flagged down in the 3100 block of Bissonnet by two people who said their cars were broken into. The victims told police they parked their cars at a residence on Bissonnet around 2:15 a.m., and when they returned to their cars around 7 a.m. the passenger side windows of both vehicles were broken. One victim reported an iPod stolen.
Police pulled over a driver leaving the back parking lot of West U. Elementary around 8:14 p.m. Dec. 30 due to a missing license plate light not working. When the officer approached the car, there was allegedly a strong odor of marijuana. The officer found marijuana in the car and arrested the driver for possession of marijuana.
Around 8:19 p.m. Dec. 30, a resident in the 3800 block of Riley told police that someone entered his home through second-story French doors, but nothing was taken from the house. There are no suspects.
Two men were arrested for evading arrest after running from police around 10 p.m. Dec. 30. Officers were responding to a suspicious persons call in the 6600 block of Belmont when they found the two suspects outside a dark SUV on the passenger side. The two men ran, and an officer chased them. Another officer detained the men before they could get in a parked car several blocks away. The driver of the SUV left when police began chasing the two suspects. The two suspects were arrested and taken to the West U. jail.
Officers arrested a man on a bicycle around 2:47 a.m. Dec. 31 in the 3000 block of Sunset after stopping him for lack of a front white light and rear reflector. When the man was stopped, the officer says there was an odor of alcohol emanating from the suspect, and placed the man under arrest for public intoxication.
Around 5:12 a.m. Dec. 31, an officer on patrol in the 5800 block of Kirby saw a man walking back and forth in front of a business. When the officer stopped the man and asked him what he was doing, he discovered the man has a felony parole violation warrant. The warrant was confirmed, and the suspect was arrested.
An assault was reported around 9:21 a.m. Dec. 31 in the 3100 block of Plumb. The victim, speaking through a coworker, told police that an unknown person assaulted him and fled the area. A report was taken.
Police were dispatched to the 4100 block of Byron around 6:40 a.m. Jan. 1 in reference to found property. The officer recovered a blue lock box-type safe on the ground. The box was open and there were papers inside the box, which was taken to the station for safekeeping.
A window in a door in the rear of a residence in the 6700 block of Vanderbilt was damaged while the owner was away. The damage was reported on Jan. 1.
West U. police went to the Harris County Jail on Jan. 1 to take custody of a suspect who has multiple arrest warrants in West U. The suspect was taken to the West U. jail.
Around 9 p.m. Jan. 1, police responded to a call regarding a man throwing rocks at vehicles on the 3100 block of University. The officer found the suspect in the 6100 block of Buffalo Speedway and arrested the suspect for public intoxication.
On Jan. 2 an officer saw a man sitting in a parked car in the 6100 block of Lake. The officer made contact and discovered marijuana. The suspect was arrested.
Around 2:46 a.m. Jan. 2 an officer on patrol saw a vehicle missing two tires parked in the 3000 block of Sunset. The car was sitting on cement blocks. The owner told police that someone stole the two tires.
Around 12:27 p.m. Jan. 3, police pulled over a car in the 3100 block of Cason for an expired registration sticker. The officer discovered that the driver has no driver’s license, no insurance and an expired inspection sticker. The driver was arrested.
