Staff To Go Ahead With Colonial Park Recommendations – Including Early Closure Of The Pool
Despite cancellation of tomorrows Parks Board meeting, City of West U. staff will make a recommendation to council on June 8 concerning the design of the new Colonial Park building as well as recommending closing the pool for the fall. If council agrees to the closure, West U. will be without pool facilities until the summer of 2010.
The city originally intended to open the new pool at the Fitness Center before closure of the Colonial Park pool, but delays in the planning process mean that doing so would cause Colonial Park pool to be closed next summer. The early closure is likely to upset many lap swimmers, who use the heated pool year-round.
During a May Senior Board meeting, Councilman Chuck Guffey brought up the possibility of an early closure for the Colonial Park pool, but said he didn’t think there was any plan to “shut us down without any pools.” Senior Board member and lap swimmer Cathy Wright told Guffey that she had been told that at least one pool would be open at all times.
