St. Agnes Academy Purchases Land For Future Campus Expansion
St. Agnes Academy recently purchased 18.709 acres of vacant property at the corner of Fondren Road and Bellaire Boulevard, just minutes away from the school’s existing campus.
The land will be used to provide a state-of-the-art learning facility for students. The site is a former Gillman Automotive Group location.
“This is the next step in our vision for excellence and in providing the very best for our young women in the years to come,” Head of School Sr. Jane Meyer, O.P. said. “We are grateful to our community for their support as we partner together to make our dreams become reality.”
The land acquisition comes on the heels of an updated campus strategic plan that uncovered pressing needs for the school’s currently land-locked campus at 9000 Bellaire Boulevard. Additional parking, much-needed athletic and events space, and upgraded performing-arts facilities emerged from the assessment after polling students, parents, faculty and staff and alumnae.
“In order to expand, St. Agnes would need to either relocate some of our athletic programs or build a parking garage on our current campus to free up room,” Meyer said. “Our Board of Directors considered both options very carefully before moving forward with researching and purchasing land.”
In coming months, school board directors and administrators will continue to carefully plan for the future extension of the St. Agnes campus.
“This is the beginning of a process that will require much effort, many prayers, and continued support. We are grateful for the many parents, friends, students and alumnae who help us continue our mission of providing a strong Dominican education,” Meyer said.
