Snow Guaranteed For ‘Wonderland In Westchase’

November 25, 2008

More than 75,000 pounds of pounds is forecast for “Wonderland in Westchase,” a community event that will take place at First Methodist Houston’s Quillian Center next month

Besides snow, Wonderland in Westchase will feature children’s activities, face painting, musical entertainment, food from local restaurants, fire truck rides, a climbing wall, pony rides, a mechanical bull, a live nativity and Santa and Mrs. Claus. Admission is a new toy or nonperishable food donation benefiting the House of Amos or West Houston Assistance Ministries.

Miss Texas USA Brooke Daniels of Tomball will also be on hand to greet guests. Daniels was chosen Miss Texas USA in June after being named as one of the 25 most beautiful Houstonians by “H Texas” magazine last year.

Christian recording artist Wayne Kerr of Katy will headline the event’s two stages of entertainment. Other performers include Cookie Joe’s Ballet Grace, Strake Jesuit/St. Agnes Jazz Ensemble, choirs from Houston ISD’s Askew Elementary, Chancellor and Heflin Elementary Schools in Alief ISD, Burton Elementary School in Fort Bend ISD and Wesley Academy, a private school affiliated with First Methodist Houston in Westchase.

First Methodist Houston’s Senior Ringers, Dickens Carolers and Bell Choirs, as well as First Praise and Jazz Band, a harp ensemble and Messianic dancers will also perform.

“Last year’s event attracted 7,000 people,” said Tom Gaden of Bellaire, director of Quillian Center and chairman of the event. “Wonderland in Westchase is becoming a holiday tradition that families look forward to each year. We have added new attractions this year and have increased the amount of snow to 75,000 pounds. This is truly an event you don’t want to miss, especially if you have children.”

Children may also enter a Wonderland in Westchase coloring contest by picking up forms at Amegy Bank locations or online at www.quilliancenter.org.  Deadline for entries is Dec.5.

Among the prizes in the contest is the opportunity to turn on the tree lights at Wonderland in Westchase.

The event is organized by First Methodist Houston and its Quillian Center, Houston West Chamber of Commerce and Westchase District.

Lead sponsors are Amegy Bank, First Methodist Houston and Westside Tennis Club.

Other top sponsors include Houston Chronicle, Houston Business Journal, MemberSource Credit Union, Richfield Investment Corp., Westchase District, Camden Properties, Houston West Chamber of Commerce, Quillian Center, BMC Software, Coca-Cola, Festive Tents, URS Washington Division and United Recovery Systems.
