Severe Thunderstorm Watch in Effect Until 9 a.m.

March 20, 2012

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the West U area in addition to the flash flood advisory issued earlier today.

The severe thunderstorm watch is in effect until 9 a.m. The flash flood advisory remains in effect until 6 p.m.

Winds greater than 40 mph, frequent ground to cloud lightning and brief moderate downpours are all possible with these storms.

Gusty winds may cause unsecured small objects such as trash cans to blow around. Residents are urged to avoid tall outdoor objects that can attract lightning.

“If you are outdoors and hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning,” forecasters warned. “Seek shelter in a sturdy structure until these storms have passed.”
