Sargent, Prendergast Art Exhibits Open Sunday
Three new exhibits open at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston on Valentine’s Day. The exhibits are Prendergast in Italy, Sargent and the Sea and Houston’s Sargents.
Prendergast in Italy–the first exhibition devoted entirely to the Italian watercolors, monotypes, and oil paintings by the American modern artist Maurice Prendergast– features more than 60 views of Venice, Rome, Siena, and Capri, and also includes the artist’s personal sketchbooks, letters, photographs, and guidebooks.
Sargent and the Sea will feature more than 80 paintings, watercolors, and drawings of seascapes and coastal scenes from the recently re-discovered early work of the celebrated 19th-century portraitist John Singer Sargent.
Houston’s Sargents showcases some 30 paintings from the private collections of Houstonians, selected from what is collectively the largest holding of Sargent paintings in private hands in the U.S., outside of New York and Boston.
The museum is located at 1001 Bissonnet St. For more information, visit www.mfah.org or call (713) 639-7300.
