Sample to run for Mayor, Turner seeks Council post

West University Place Mayor Pro Tem Susan Sample has filed as a candidate for mayor of West U.

Sample is serving her second term on the West University Place City Council. She is a native Houstonian and has been a West U resident since 2005.

A product of HISD schools, Sample received her bachelor’s degree from Rice University and obtained a law degree and a master’s in accounting from University of Texas at Austin.

Prior to being elected to city council, Susan served on the board of directors of Friends of West U Parks. She currently serves on the boards of SPARK Park as treasurer, Career and Recovery Resources, a United Way Agency, and Crisis Intervention of Houston as the Junior League of Houston outside board representative.

Professionally, she serves on the boards of the Houston CPA Society and the Texas Society of CPAs. She is also a 10-year committee member with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Sample is married to Michael Larsson, who actively serves as a member of West U Rotary.

Mardi Turner, a West U resident who served on the Parks and Recreation Board for six years, has filed as a candidate for City Council.

Former West U Mayor Bob Kelly filed earlier as a council candidate.

The deadline for candidates to file for the cit’s May 9, 2015 city election is February 27, 2015.
