Russian Cultural Center To Hold Tchaikovsky Birthday Celebration

The Russian Cultural Center “Our Texas” is planning a birthday celebration for Russian composer Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky at 7:30 p.m. May 11 at the center, 2337 Bissonnet.

 

Piotr Tchaikovsky (May 7, 1840 – Nov. 6, 1893) wrote some of the most popular concert and theatrical music in the Classical repertoire, including the ballets Swan Lake and The Nutcracker, the 1812 Overture, his First Piano Concerto, several symphonies, and the opera Eugene Onegin.

 

The RCC will present a documentary film about the composer, followed by a musical recital of excerpts from Tchaikovsky’s “Seasons”, performed by James Dick. Dick, a pianist, is the founder and creative director of the Festival-Institute in Round Top.

 

The event is $12 for members and $15 for non-members. Light refreshments will be served. Seating is limited, call 713-395-3301 to RSVP.
