Robber Hits Compass Bank In West U. City Center
Police are investigating a bank robbery that happened over the weekend at the Compass Bank on Edloe Street, in the heart of West University Place.
Bank employees called police around 9:15 a.m. on Jan. 9 and said that a tall, black man had entered the bank and mumbled something to a bank teller.
When the woman asked what he said, the robber held up a note and passed her a bag. He did not display a weapon of any type.
“She gave him money, filled the bag and he left,” said West U. Lt. Charlie Deily. “We don’t have a car that he got into or anything.”
Deily said the suspect is described as a tall, black man who wore sunglasses, a ski-style cap and a coat bearing the Nike emblem. Police are asking any potential witnesses of the bank robbery to come forward.
“Somebody had to have driven by and not known what they were looking at,” Deily said.
The Saturday robbery was the second time that someone robbed that Compass Bank location.
