Reprieve: schools won’t have to count tough STAAR test for 9th-graders this year

Texas school districts, including Houston ISD, are awaiting instructions from the Texas Education Agency about changes announced Friday to implementation of the tough STAAR standardized end-of-course exams for high school students. They’ve been given the option of deferring a requirement that the tests be counted as 15 percent of ninth-graders’ total course grade until next school year.
