Relay For Life Still On, Moved To Football Stadium For Shelter
The Relay For Life will go on as planned this evening, April 17, at Rice, but the event has been moved from the Track and Field Stadium to Rice’s football stadium, where walkers will be sheltered from the rain expected to blanket Greater Houston. Tents will be used to help cover the exposed North end of the mezzanine. Registration begins at 5 p.m. with the opening ceremony at 7:30 p.m.
The Relay has been a major fundraiser for the American Cancer Society for more than 20 years. Last year’s event at Rice raised $129,662. Participants will walk the track from dusk until dawn in honor of friends and family who have struggled with cancer.
The event will also feature enrollment for Cancer Prevention Study 3, which will look for links between lifestyle and cancer among 500,000 participants nationwide. Enrollment takes place from 7-11 p.m.
