Registration Now Open for Texas Pride Field Hockey Club
The Texas Pride Field Hockey Club is now accepting registration forms for the upcoming fall training session.
- Fall training is open to all athletes in Grades 3 – 8 and will take place on eight Saturday mornings at Episcopal High School between Sept. 1 and Nov. 3. The sessions will focus on teaching the fundamental skills of field hockey and game tactics.
“We are thrilled to offer field hockey training to girls and boys in the Houston area, “ said Jess McClain, director and co-founder of Texas Pride Field Hockey Club. “Our goal is to introduce field hockey to a greater group of athletes and to teach proper techniques while instilling a love of the game to a new generation of youngsters.”
The nine Saturdays will start at 9 a.m. and end at 10:30 a.m. McClain and her Texas Pride Field Hockey Club Co-Founder Val Coyle, have carefully planned out the sessions to maximize each player’s ability level. Warm up, skills, drills and scrimmages will be a part of the all sessions.
“Field hockey is a wonderful sport that can provide great experiences and opportunities for young people. It is more widely known on the east and west Coasts so we are doing our best to grow the sport here in our area,” said McClain, who grew up on the New York and has played field hockey for the last 24 years. “We really want to educate young athletes – girls and boys – about this game.”
McClain said that field hockey, found as #3 on lists of most popular sports in the world, is played internationally by both men and women and is an official Olympic sport – timely now that the London Olympics just finished.
“This is a great time for all players – whether they have been playing for several years or if they have never held a hockey stick before – to come out and play field hockey with Texas Pride,” she said.
