Recreation Facilities One Again Subject Of Special Council Session
The West U. City Council will hold a special meeting to discuss the city’s recreational facilities – including establishing and clarifying the names of the facilities – at 6 p.m. April 13 in the conference room of the Municipal Building, 3800 University Blvd.
A regular council session will follow at 6:30 p.m. in Council Chambers. Nicholas Ro and Susan Garofolo will receive the Star Citizen Award for their volunteer work with the 2009 Park Lover’s Ball.
Council will also hear the first reading of the proposed ordinance amendment concerning driveway stubs. Council could approve the ordinance on the first reading. During the pubic hearing, several residents expressed support for the changes, which would allow for dead-end driveways and stubs along Buffalo Speedway. The amendment was originally intended to allow residents to turn around in their vehicles to avoid backing out into Buffalo Speedway traffic, but most residents were supportive of the opportunity to have more parking available.
Council will also consider approval of $150,000 in funds from Friends of West U. Parks for the redevelopment of Huffington Park.
