Rec. Center/Colonial Park Proposal Cut Down To $13.8 Million
A $13.8 million plan for the West U. Recreation Center and Colonial Park will be presented to council at Monday night’s meeting.
The plan was approved by a 7-1 vote by the parks board at last night’s meeting. The dissenting vote was cast by Helen Talianchich, who asked that the board present a $5 million option as well. Board member Charles May did not attend the meeting. The original plan came in at just under $15 million. Costs were lowered by cutting $200,000 worth of square footage and $300,000 in furniture and equipment at the Rec. Center.
West U. City Manager Michael Ross expects the readings of the ordinance calling for the November bond election, which will include the proposals for both parks, to occur at the July 28 and August 11 council meetings.
