Rain, Wind Expected To Increase Throughout The Day As Tropical Storm Edouard Moves Closer To Harris County
The City of West U. has released a second statement to residents concerning Tropical Storm Edouard. Rain from the storm is already in the area, but expected to increase throughout the day.
The statement to residents includes the following updates: the storm’s track shifted up the coast with landfall between High Island and State line – this should reduce the wind impact to West University Place; at this time a large western eyewall with sustained 40-50mph winds is moving west across Chambers and Liberty counties toward Harris County; rainfall in this band producing 2-3″ per hour may reach West U. throughout the day; strong winds will move much more inland than originally expected given faster forward motion of the storm.
Harris County remains under a hurricane watch, and a flash flood watch remains in effect through late tonight. Only essential city personnel have reported for work today, and routine services such as garbage collection and recreational programs have been cancelled. City representatives say crews are standing by to provide services to residents if needed.
