Rain Causes Some Delays To Kirby And Bellaire Construction

August 22, 2008

Recent wet weather has caused some delays in local construction on Kirby Drive and Bellaire Boulevard.

The contractor for construction on Bellaire Boulevard anticipates the continued temporary opening of the Bellaire Boulevard/Stella Link interception as paving work is completed. The two northbound lanes of the intersection have been poured and opened, and two-way traffic has been transferred to those lanes. Paving of the southbound lanes is expected later next week.

The tentative schedule for work inside West U. city limits is: Weslayan from Bellaire Boulevard to Riley Street, storm sewer and paving: mid-August to early November; Weslayan from Riley Street to Marquette, 30” storm sewer and paving: early November to end of December; College Avenue from Riley Street to University Boulevard, end of October to end of March, 2009.

Current progress of eastside paving on Kirby Drive is between its intersection with Robinhood Street and Dunstan Street. At this point, the Kirby Drive eastside intersection with both Tangley Street and Dunstan is closed.
