PTOs provide parents outlet to help teachers, schools, students

Back to school means different things for parents: shopping for new clothes and school supplies and a chance to get kids off the couch and out of the house.

But for some parents, it also means time to volunteer and get involved with their child’s parent teacher organization.

“The purpose of the PTO and parent involvement is to foster a relationship between the school and families who attend it,” said Chris Cander, the public relations chair for West University Elementary School’s PTO.
