Police Warn Residents about Identity Theft Scam

June 27, 2013

The West U Police Department is warning residents about a telephone scam that has been reported in the community.

The police department has received two reports from residents who have received a phone call from an individual claiming to be with federal law enforcement.

The caller asks the resident to verify their name, driver’s license number, address, social security number and any other information that can be used to identify you.

“The individuals conducting the calls may become agitated and aggressive if you do not comply with their request. These callers are scam artists trying to get your personal information to open fictitious accounts,” the police department said in a statement.

Police are warning residents to not give out their personal information over the phone. Anyone who receives a call from these scammers is asked to obtain as much information about the caller as possible and contact the West U Police Department at 713-668-0330.
