Police Report Several Hit And Runs
On Aug. 17, a West U. resident in the 4200 block of Southwestern reported credit/debit card abuse after someone used a bank card to withdraw money from multiple ATM’s without the resident’s permission.
A car was broken into in the 3500 block of Plumb on Aug. 18 sometime between 5:50 p.m. and 6:10 p.m. Construction materials were stolen from a home under construction in the 3800 block of Rice. Police were called to the home on Aug. 19, but the theft occurred some time over the previous weekend.
A resident filed a report at the police station on Aug. 19, reporting that someone had used his credit card information to withdraw $1,000 from his bank account without his permission. The resident told police that he still had his card, and that no one he knew had access to his credit card information.
Around 11:14 p.m. on Aug. 19, police were dispatched to a home in the 4100 block of Amherst in response to a domestic disturbance. The woman told police that she was in a physical altercation with her husband, who had been diagnosed with mental illness. The husband was taken to the Neuropsychiatric Center for emergency detention.
A package stolen from the porch of a home in the 3000 block of Pittsburg was returned to the resident by a builder who found the package at a construction site.
A woman was arrested at 6:50 p.m. on Aug. 20 after a traffic stop for speeding. When the driver gave police her license, it was discovered that she has three traffic warrants out of Webster. The driver was taken into custody for the warrants. While taking inventory of the car for towing, officers found a fake Texas driver’s license and what appeared to be forged checks. A fraudulent use/possession of identifying information charge was filed on the driver.
Two large planters were stolen from the front of a home in the 3900 block of Byron on Aug. 20.
A man was arrested for soliciting after-hours after a resident called police to report a suspicious person in the 5400 block of Community around 9:05 p.m.
Two men were arrested for public intoxication after police saw them both standing outside a stopped vehicle in a moving lane of traffic in the 4200 block of Bissonnet around 1:57 a.m. Aug. 21.
A bag was stolen from a truck parked in the 4100 block of Byron around 12:24 p.m. Aug. 21. The front passenger side window had been knocked out.
A woman in the 3700 block of Rice reported to police that she heard a loud noise around 12:48 p.m. Aug. 21, and went outside and saw a tractor trailer parked in front of her residence, looking at a light pole that he had apparently hit. The man got back into the tractor trailer and left the scene. Another failure to stop and give information was reported on Aug. 22 around 10:06 a.m. in the 6600 block of Community. A third failure to stop and give information was reported by a driver around 11:59 a.m. Aug. 22. The driver told police that as he was turning left from Weslayan onto Rice, another car hit his vehicle, tried to pass him on the driver’s side, then took off.
A resident came to the police station on Aug. 21 and told police that someone had used his missing driver’s license and received a citation from police. The resident was unaware of this until he received a letter from the West University Municipal Court indicated that he had missed a court date.
A resident reported a suspicious phone call after a man who identified himself as Robert from FedEx called the resident and requested verification of the resident’s address and zip code for a package that was to be delivered. The resident gave the caller the information, and then decided he should report it to police.
