Burglary of a Habitation

At 9:53 p.m. an officer was dispatched to the 3300 block of Rice for a burglary alarm. The officer arrived on-scene at the same time the residents did. The officer advised the residents to stay in the front while he searched the back of the property. While the officer was searching the back of the residence he observed a dark male subject walking around inside. The subject saw the officer and attempted to flee the residence through the front door. The subject, upon exiting the front, met the home owners who started screaming at him and the subject ran back inside. Upon conducting a room-to-room search, the subject was found hiding in the upstairs attic under some insulation. A backpack was recovered at the back door that contained several boxes of jewelry that were taken from an upstairs closet. The subject was taken into custody and charged with burglary of habitation.
