Plans Filed With City For Matthew’s Market
Jim Reid has filed plans with the City of West U. for “Matthew’s Neighborhood Market,” to be located at the former site of Matthew’s Motors at 6203 Edloe. The plans estimate renovations to begin in July, be complete by September, and cost $100,000.
The plans filed with the city show the building to be 5,741 sq. ft, which will include a 429 sq. ft. covered porch facing Edloe, 360 sq. ft. of “game area,” a 430 sq. ft. kitchen, a 1,417 sq. ft. cafe with seating and a 3,734 sq. ft. grocery store.
The site is holds prior non-conforming status where parking is concerned, so Reid will not be required to provide the 43 parking spaces that would normally be required by the city. Current plans call for eight parking spaces.
Drawings of the proposal include a new awning and 5-foot sidewalk facing Edloe, with a raised backlit sign reading “Matthew’s Market.” The exterior will be decorative brick with down-lit wall sconces.
The plans now have to be reviewed and approved by the city planner, building official and fire marshal before work can begin.
Reid, who announced the concept earlier this year, originally said he hoped for an April opening date. The city issued a stop work order in January when signs appeared advertising Matthews Market without approved plans filed with the city. Reid, former part-owner of JMH, says he was disappointed when JMH closed about a year and a half after his partner bought him out, and hopes Matthew’s Market will serve as a “neighborhood gathering place” as well as a local grocery store.
