Panic as shooter attacks in Weslayan Plaza area
UPDATE: Police now say the shooter is dead. Motorists are ordered to avoid the area as injured have yet to be transported. Bissonnet and Weslayan are both closed in the area to facilitate emergency response.
ABC-13 is reporting that Houston police have shot someone who opened fire at about 6:30 a.m. Monday in the Weslayan Plaza area on the Randall’s market side after shooting “several” people.
A fire official told the station that the original shots may have come from the apartments behind the plaza on Law Street and were in the area of the Petco store.
West University Place residents in the “chimney” area north of Bissonnet and west of Weslayan were ordered to shelter in place, and Weslayan has been closed between Bissonnet Street and Westpark Drive.
A motorist interviewed by ABC-13 cameraman Jaime Zamora, who was at the area, said her vehicle was fired upon, and she appeared to have an arm injury from what she said was broken glass.
Houston fire officials said they have sent 20 EMS units to the scene.
