Owls No. 20 in Collegiate Baseball Magazine’s Preseason Poll
The Rice baseball team is ranked 20th in the country in Collegiate Baseball‘s preseason rankings for the upcoming 2013 season, the publication announced from its headquarters in Arizona on Thursday (Dec. 20). Collegiate Baseball‘s full 2013 preseason poll appears below and at the publication’s web site (above link).
Last spring the Rice baseball team went 41-19 and advanced to an NCAA Regional for an 18th-straight year. Under the direction of head coach Wayne Graham, who is now in his 22nd season at the helm of the program, the Owls have won at least 40 games in each of the last 18 seasons and have won or shared 17-consecutive conference championships (including regular season and/or conference tournament titles).
Rice returns 18 experienced lettermen to the roster in 2013, including four returning starters in the field and a host of veteran pitchers led by junior right-hander Austin Kubitza. The Owls have a highly-touted group of incoming freshmen players making their Division I debut this spring. Rice opens the 2013 baseball season at home on Feb. 15 against Stanford (ranked No. 9 in the poll) in a three-game weekend series at Reckling Park.
