New Year’s Info: No Trash Pickup or Rec Center

December 29, 2014

There will be no curbside trash or recycling collection, and the West U Rec Center will be closed on Thursday, January 1, 2015.

The Rec Center will be open Wednesday, from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. and will be open during regular hours on Friday, January 2.

Trash and recycling usually scheduled for collection on Thursday will be picked up on Wednesday, December 31, instead. Trash and recycling will not be affected on Friday.

The city of West U is offering Christmas tree recycling, from now through January 16, 2015.

All trees free of foreign material (i.e., lights, ornaments, tinsel, flocking, stands, etc.) should be placed curbside on regularly scheduled trash collection days. The city will be operating a single truck to collect the trees and depending on numbers of trees curbside it may take a few days.

Flocked trees or trees containing any foreign objects will not be accepted for recycling and will be discarded in the landfill. Any Christmas trees placed curbside after Jan. 16 will need to comply with normal collection rules and be cut to four foot lengths for disposal or a special collection fee will apply.
