Mysterious Drive-Through Thief Leaves Empty Handed

December 22, 2009

An unsuccessful thief ended up empty handed after breaking into the drive through of Smoothie King last week.

At 6 a.m. on Dec. 16, an employee arrived at the store in the 5400 block of Kirby Drive to find someone had broken the drive-through window. She reviewed a surveillance video and saw a person break the window and climb through. The video showed the thief trying to open the cash drawer and safe, to no avail.

With nothing to show for it, the person left the store by climbing out the broken window.

The video showed a lone burglar wearing a dark tan jacket with a hood and gloves. The person wore something to cover his or her face.

“There’s really not much to go on here because they covered themselves up pretty well,” said West U. Lt. Charlie Deily. “Obviously it wasn’t their first time in the store.”
