Mother Of Three Needs Stem Cell Transplant; Donor Testing Day Scheduled At Weekley YMCA
Braes Heights resident Tracye Sellers, the mother of two daughters at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic School and one who attends Mother’s Day Out at West U. Methodist Church, has been diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and needs to find a donor for a stem cell transplant. From 9 a.m.-4 p.m. June 13 anyone wishing to be tested as a possible match can have their cheeks swabbed at the Weekley YMCA, 7101 Stella Link Blvd. The test, including paperwork, should take about 10 minutes.
West U. Methodist Church and St. Vincent’s Catholic Church have both held testing days, but no match has been found.
A matching donor will take a physical, receive shots for several days to boost stem cell production, have several blood tests and then make the stem cell donation, which usually requires several short visits over the course of one week. All procedures will be done at Methodist Hospital. There is no financial cost to the donor. Test results will be entered into the national registry so other patients needing a match nationwide may also benefit.
