Monday’s West U. City Council Meeting Cancelled
The West University Place council meeting scheduled for Monday has been cancelled due to a lack of quorum. The agenda for the cancelled meeting included the possibility of declaring the property at 3936 Marlowe as “surplus property” so the city can sell the land.
The property was involved in a four-year legal battle between the owner and the city due to zoning ordinance issues. The house has been torn town, and the city owns the property. Council will consider Monday declaring the land “surplus property,” a requirement for the land to be sold. The lawsuit between the owner of the property and the city was settled in February, and the city bought the land for market value.
“The city hopes to recover, as much as possible, our out of pocket expenses associated with the property,” said City Manager Michael Ross.
Also on the agenda was consideration of the appointment of Debora Connelly to the Friends of West University Place Parks Fund Board.
The next regular council meeting will take place at 6:30 p.m., June 23 in the Municipal Building, 3800 University Blvd.
