Mid-Rise Apartment Complex to be Built Near West U
Plans are in the works for a new mid-rise apartment complex to be built near West U.
The Hanover Company is expected to build a 425 unit apartment complex on the current site of Bissonnet Village Apartments, 2630 Bissonnet. The company reportedly plans to tear down the apartments in November.
West U Assistant City Manager and Public Works Director Chris Peifer told InstantNewsWestU.com that the city has not been contacted by anyone about the plans for the project.
Peifer said the apartment complex will increase density, but traffic will empty out onto Bissonnet and Kirby, which are already busy streets.
“There shouldn’t be a whole lot of people leaving the apartments who will be coming into West U,” he said. “I can’t see where we’re going to see a phenomenal affect.”
Peifer said the new apartment complex could potentially impact the West University Elementary School, which has had an increase in enrollment over the last several years.
The news organization attempted to contact Principal John Threet for comment about potential impacts on the school, but he has not responded to the request.
While the planned apartment complex is not located within the city limits of West U, the developer says “West U provides exceptional residential amenities and overall proximity to most of Houston’s trendy destinations.”
“Hanover West University” is one of numerous properties listed on The Hanover Company’s capital markets portion of their website.

West U will also see a second apartment complex pop up near the city at 3810 Law. Allusion West University, a four story apartment building with two levels of parking, will be developed on the current site of the Courts at West University.
