Mayor has Competition for Top Spot

February 15, 2013

West U resident Sonny Brandtner has told InstantNewsWestU.com that he intends to run for mayor in the upcoming May 11 election.

“After a lot of thought and discussions with friends, family and neighbors I plan on filing for a spot on the ballot as mayor,” Brandtner said. “I am fortunate to have a period of time to give back to the community I love.”

The new mayoral candidate said he intends to file next week.

Brandtner currently serves on the Friends of West U Parks Fund Board of Directors. He was appointed to the board in 2010.

Brandtner is the first resident, besides a member of the current city council, to announce his intention to run in the upcoming election. Mayor Bob Fry has filed for re-election.

West U residents will elect a mayor and council on May 11. They will also vote on proposed amendments to the city’s charter, including changing council’s term limits from two terms to three.

The last day to file is March 1 by 5 p.m. and the last day to withdraw is March 4 by 5 p.m.

Applications and accompanying documents can be picked up from City Secretary Thelma Lenz’s office in city hall, 3800 University Blvd.
