Man With Knife Taken For Psychiatric Evaluation

West U. Police were called to a business in the 5300 block of Kirby around 12:44 p.m. Feb. 15 in response to reports of a man with a knife. When officers arrived, they disarmed the suspect. A search revealed another knife and a container of pepper spray. The suspect was taken to Ben Taub Hospital and admitted for a psychiatric evaluation.

Around 11:11 a.m. Feb. 16 a passerby notified a resident of the 6500 block of Rutgers that her driver’s side window had been smashed. Nothing was reported stolen.

A driver pulled over for traveling 44 mph in a 30 mph zone in the 6400 block of Buffalo Speedway was arrested for driving with a suspended license and not having insurance.

A resident in the 6100 bock of Kirby told police on Feb. 18 that a man hired to remodel his home stole the resident’s tools, lumber, cabinet handles and hinges from his detached garage. According to reports, a witness observed the suspect with two or three other people take the items out of the garage and put them in the suspect’s vehicle. The witness told police the theft occurred around 11 a.m. Feb. 17.

A man cleaning out the residence of his deceased father found a firearm, and turned it into the police department for disposal on Feb. 18.

Around 11:30 p.m.  Feb. 18, police pulled over a car traveling southbound on Weslayan for not having a working taillight. The stop was made in the 3600 block of University, and the driver had a suspended license. The passenger was found to have multiple warrants from Harris County, and both were arrested.

On Feb. 19 a resident came to the police station to report that her vehicle’s rear window was shattered, and there was no evidence as to what caused it.

Appliances were stolen from an unsecured garage of a house under construction in the 2700 block of Cason on Feb. 19.

Around 7:56 a.m. Feb. 20, police saw the driver of a car in the 4200 block of Bissonnet change lanes without signaling. The officer checked the vehicle’s registration, and found the license plates to be invalid. The driver was pulled over and arrested for possession of marijuana after a cigarette with a green leafy substance was found in the ashtray of the vehicle.

A driver who failed to signal for a turn in the 6600 block of Buffalo Speedway was pulled over and arrested for not having a driver’s license or insurance.

A purse was stolen from a car around 1:22 p.m. Feb. 21.
