Man Arrested For Paying With Counterfeit Bill At Smoothie King
West University Place police arrested a 31-year-old man for paying with a counterfeit $100 bill at Smoothie King, 5410 Kirby, on April 6.
John Hall, of Southwest Houston, was arrested after the manager of Smoothie King called the police and informed them of the counterfeit bill.
Hall came into the store and tried to purchase one smoothie, but the worker at the cash register told him they didn’t have change for a $100. Hall ordered another smoothie. The worker brought the $100 bill to Manager Linda Whittington who knew right away that the bill was counterfeit.
“When I looked at it, I saw Abraham Lincoln on the bill and I knew it was counterfeit,” Whittington said.
Whittington said Smoothie King employees are trained to know what counterfeit bills look like.
The Smoothie King employees didn’t let on to Hall that they had called the police and he was arrested right outside of the store.
“I’m glad I had the chance to stop it,” Whittington said.
Hall had at least one other $100 bill on him, Detective David McCurry said.
The Secret Service was contacted to interview Hall and the investigation is ongoing.
Hall was transferred to the Harris County Jail facility.
