Local Jewish Congregation Welcomes New Cantor
Congregation Brith Shalom in Bellaire will welcome a new cantor at a ceremony on Saturday, and invites people to help celebrate at a party and concert later in the evening.
Lance Rhodes will be installed as the Cantor of the synagogue at 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 9. The celebration will continue at 7:30 p.m. with a concert featuring Rhodes, the Brith Shalom choir and a special appearance by Cantor David Propis.
Rhodes received his Bachelors of Music from the University of Miami in 2003. While attending the college, he led High Holiday services with a cantor and a male quartet in South Beach, directed several different music groups, composed soundtracks for a couple of student films, and headlined as the main performer/composer for events such as the March of Dimes Walk and University of Miami 9-11 Vigil. For a brief period after graduation, Rhodes worked as a freelance arranger for Warner Bros. Publications. Beginning in August of 2004, Rhodes attended the H. L. Miller Cantorial School at the Jewish Theological Seminary and received his degree in May of 2009.
