Sunday is Last Day to Register for ‘National Night Out’
West U residents who would like to have a first responder attend their “National Night Out” block party have until Sunday at 6 p.m. to register.
The 28th annual “National Night Out” will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 4 from 6-9 p.m.
National Night Out is an event for residents and law enforcement to partner up against crime.
The police department will try to have a first responder stop by each party that is registered by 6 p.m. on Sunday.
Residents are encouraged to turn on their porch lights, lock their doors and spend the evening outside with their neighbors, police officers, firefighters and EMS paramedics. Events such as cookouts, block parties and neighborhood walks will all occur simultaneously throughout the city and nationwide.
National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support and participation in crime efforts, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police community relations and send a message to criminals, letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
Anyone interested in hosting a National Night Out event should contact Officer K. Wilson at firstname.lastname@example.org or 713.662.5866.
