Lamar Student Donates $400 To WULL Challenger Division
Lamar High School student and baseball player John Williamson recently donated the $400 in proceeds from his school project to West U. Little League’s Challenger Division. Williamson is a sophomore pitcher and right fielder for LHS varsity baseball. He is a WULL All Star and played on the 9-year-old District Championship team in 2002 as well as the Junior All Star team which won district, sectional and was state runner-up in 2007. Williamson said his passion for baseball was his reason for donating the proceeds from his wristband project to Challenger. Other LHS baseball players assisted as buddies this week.
Rabbi Walter gave the invocation followed by the National Anthem sung by Michael Miller whose daughter Molly plays in the Challenger division. Miller serves on the WULL Board of Directors, as well. West U. Little League player JR Greenwalt threw the first pitch to his dad, Todd Greenwalt, as they represented one of the division sponsors, Vinson & Elkins. Challenger Baseball will have an off week Sunday, May 10, but will return to the fields on May 17 for the final games of the season at 2 p.m. with the season end celebration and barbeque to follow.
