Lamar Celebrates 25 Years Of IB Excellence
Mirabeau B. Lamar High School is celebrating the 25th Anniversary of its first recipient of the International Baccalaureate Program Diploma.
Lamar High School was officially authorized as an IB Diploma Programme in 1982. The first IB Diploma was awarded in 1984.
In 2008, students at Lamar High School earned 99 IB Diplomas and the school has become the number one IB Program in Texas. It is also one of the top ten IB Diploma Programmes in the United States.
Lamar will be celebrating the 25th Anniversary and awarding the 99 IB Diplomas on Monday, Jan. 5, at a gala event to be held at the Wortham Theatre.
“This is a momentous occasion in the history of Lamar High School,” said Jon Mallam, Lamar’s IB Diploma coordinator. “We are extremely proud of these students and our past diploma recipients as well. We look forward to even more recipients in the future.”
