LaB 5555 at HMNS: The Perfect Mix of Geek and Chic
Unlock your inner geek at LaB 5555 – the new party place with an intelligent twist at the Houston Museum of Natural Science, beginning June 22 from 8-11 p.m.
The lab coat is optional.
Every month, come check out a hot science topic; formulate a few cocktail concoctions; enjoy the hottest food truck fare; and then rock your hottest dance moves to some live music.
“HMNS is a world-class institution, renowned far and wide not only for its exceptional collections and exhibits, but for its unique programs as well,” said Latha Thomas, vice president of marketing and communications at the Houston Museum of Natural Science. “On the heels of Mixers and Elixirs, we have blended the perfect new potion at the LaB. Here, the experiment always ends well.”
First up in the LaB is “Skin and Bones,” a special up-close look at the newly-opened Hall of Paleontology with the museum’s expert museum staff and an experiential theatre performance by ERTH’s T.rex dinosaur puppet.
Next, try out a collision of musical styles from Collide, a group of diverse musicians that brings everything to the table as they sample, deconstruct and mash up every genre of music to create an entirely new musical landscape.
Then, test food creations from It’s a Wrap; Pi Pizza; Big Happy’s Ice Cream & Treats; and Luchi & Joey’s. The food trucks are not included in the event ticket and some trucks may accept only cash.
Add more sparkle to the evening and wander through more than 750 beautifully crystallized mineral specimens housed in the Cullen Hall of Gems & Minerals and The Smith Gem Vault, where intensely hued jeweled masterpieces float wondrously in utter darkness, embodying the ultimate combination of natural perfection and flawless artistic execution.
Another option is to head over to the Burke Baker Planetarium to rock out during the planetarium showings of Dark Side of the Moon and Led Zeppelin, playing at 8:15, 9:15 and 9:45 p.m. Planetarium showings are free with a LaB 5555 ticket.
