Kirby Construction Halts Monday For Holidays

November 6, 2009

Drivers who have raised fists in frustration while moving inch-by-inch through the construction on Kirby Drive south of the Southwest Freeway really have something to look forward to this Monday.

Workers are leveling the asphalt in preparation for reopening the construction lanes, according to a West University Place weekly construction update.

Alvin Wright, spokesman with the Houston Department of Public Works and Engineering, said the city of Houston decided to halt construction to help ease increased traffic during Thanksgiving and Christmas.

“We want to make sure the holiday season is advantageous for the consumers and the businesses,” Wright said.
