Interlocal Agreement For Kirby Sidewalks Approved
The City of West University Place City Council and the City of Houston City Council have both approved an interlocal agreement for the placement of sidewalks on the west side of Kirby Drive. This work will be scheduled in the near future.
Contractors for the City of Houston have completed the installation of storm water boxes on the west side of Kirby Drive approximately 100 feet south of Kirby Drive’s intersection with Robinhood Street. These storm water boxes have also received their post-installation cleaning, and the transition work on these facilities is underway for the next segment. Paving of the east side travel lanes of Kirby Drive included in this segment of the project is completed to a point just south of the University Boulevard intersection. Paving on the west side lanes will continue in this coming week, with paving to occur between Rice Boulevard and Plumb Street. The reopening of Kirby Drive’s intersection with Rice Boulevard is anticipated on or about Wednesday of next week, weather permitting.
This reopening of Rice Boulevard will occur at the same time as the closure of the east side intersection of University Boulevard to facilitate the paving of the east side travel lanes of Kirby Drive through its intersection with University Boulevard.
The City of Houston anticipates bidding Segment 4 of this project, from just south of Kirby Drive’s intersection with Robinhood Street north past the city limits, very shortly. Once bid, the actual mobilization and work is not anticipated to begin until, at the earliest, mid-January of 2009.
