Hung jury leads to mistrial in Bellaire murder-for-hire case
After 13 hours of deliberations, a Harris County jury failed to reach a verdict Friday in the trial of Damian Ricardo Flores, 28, accused of the attempted murder-for-hire of Yvonne Stern, prompting the judge to declare a mistrial.
Stern’s husband is prominent Bellaire attorney Jeffrey Stern, who is also accused of plotting her murder with Michelle Cabrera Gaiser, his then-mistress, and hiring several men to do the job in early 2010.
Gaiser testified that she hired Flores as a hit man.
Samuel Cammack, Flores’ lead attorney, told The Examiner by phone that the jury members told attorneys they’d been split 6-6 since beginning deliberations after closing arguments Thursday morning.
