Huffman Named to Senate Finance Committee
State Senator Joan Huffman, R-Southside Place, was recently appointed to the Senate Committee on Finance by Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst. The committee hears all issues related to the state budget. Its main responsibility will be preparing the 2014-15 budget.
“It is a privilege to be appointed to the Senate Committee on Finance during such challenging times,” Huffman said. “I look forward to working with my colleagues to prioritize state spending, balance a transparent state budget without raising taxes, and make sure Texas government lives within its means.”
Huffman was recently elected chairwoman of the Texas Senate Republican Caucus. In addition, she will continue to serve as vice chairwoman of the Senate Criminal Justice Committee and also as a member of the State Affairs Committee. Huffman is relinquishing her duties on the Jurisprudence and Higher Education Committees to join the Committee on Finance.
“Sound conservative fiscal policies remain the key to our state’s future and keeping a vibrant Texas economy strong,” Huffman said. “We need to make careful and intelligent decisions about spending money wisely for those things that are important and vital to the citizens of our state.”
Huffman represents District 17, which comprises Brazoria, Fort Bend and Harris counties. Huffman and her family reside in Southside Place.
