Houston Christian to Participate in 7’s for 7 Lacrosse Tournament
Houston Christian High School will compete in the 2nd Annual 7’s for7 Lacrosse Tournament presented by Nike® Lacrosse and hosted at the Houston Amateur Sports Park located at 12131 Kirby Drive.
The tournament will take place on Saturday, Jan. 7. HC will field two JV squads and the “HC Mustang” team will compete in the Varsity Division. The public is welcome to attend at no charge.
7’s for 7 is a regional, pre-season, festival-type tournament with smaller 7 player teams designed for fast play, high scoring and competition in a variety of brackets: 5th-6th grade, 7th-8th grade, JV, Varsity, and Club. This year, there will be three ladies division.
This daylong tournament is played in memory of Andrew McCue “Drew” Webb, who passed away in April 2010. Webb was a star Lacrosse player at Episcopal High School and Cornell University wearing #7 on his jersey. He graduated first in his class at EHS (valedictorian 2004), was voted High School all-American in lacrosse twice, and received BSA’s highest honor, the Honor Medal as an Eagle Scout.
As a four-year letterman at Cornell University, he led his lacrosse team to the Ivy League championship each year. Webb served as the assistant coach to HC’s fledgling lacrosse program in only its second year of existence, and provided needed leadership and coaching to the same boys who went on the following year to play for the Texas Division 2 state lacrosse championship.
“Drew’s determination and sense of humor during times of adversity is what I remember most,” said Pete Lehle, the Head Coach of HC Lacrosse team. “His inner strength and character was a beacon of encouragement to his teammates while a player, and to the boys he coached. This was especially evident while we were working through difficulties in practice or behind in a game. He led by example on the field as a player, was a patient and passionate coach, and became a friend and positive influence to everyone he knew. We all miss him very much, but are fortunate to have had our lives touched by him.”
7’s for 7 tournament benefits the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance of Greater Houston (DBSA).
