HISD To Hold ‘Parent Prep Academy’ This Saturday
The Houston Independent School District’s Central Region Parent Prep Academy Mini-course will take place from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. April 4 at Ryan Middle School, 2610 Elgin Street.
HISD’s Central Region includes Poe Elementary School, Rice Elementary School, River Oaks Elementary School, Twain Elementary School, West U. Elementary School, Rice Middle School, Lanier Middle School, the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts and Lamar High School.
The Parent Prep Academy, a series of courses that are available to parents at various campuses throughout the district, will provide information and resources to assist parents to further their personal and professional learning, as well as to learn about the information and resources available to them as they help their children achieve academic success and take on leadership roles in their children’s schools.
Babysitting and a light breakfast will be provided. All who attend and complete three of the mini-courses will earn a certificate and have the opportunity to win a door prize. Courses include financial literacy for families, getting ready for college, how to help your child succeed in math and reading, career and resume building and much more.
“The Parent Prep Academy is another great way to continue the very important partnership between parents and schools,” said Central Region Superintendent Adriana Tamez. “We are very proud of the increasing number of high performing schools in the Central Region, and realize our partnership with parents is an important part of this success. The parents give so much to the schools, and we believe the Parent Prep Academy is a unique way for us to give back to our parents. After all, we learn not only for school, but for life.”
