HISD Police Department Joins Forces with Houston Food Bank

December 3, 2008

The Houston Independent School District Police Department is teaming up with the Houston Food Bank to help reduce hunger over the holidays. The Houston Food Bank continues to operate in “disaster mode,” after its food supplies were severely depleted by Hurricane Ike and donations dwindled in the face of an uncertain economy.

To reverse this trend and help replenish the Food Bank’s supplies, the HISD Police Department will be sponsoring a food drive from Dec. 3, through Dec.18.

Non-perishable food items will be accepted at the HISD Police Department headquarters, 3500 Tampa, between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m., and all district students, parents, faculty and staff members are encouraged to participate. A list of the most-needed items is available at http://www.houstonfoodbank.org/donate.aspx?id=1258.

HISD officers assigned to particular facilities will also be accepting donations for delivery to headquarters at the end of the food drive. All donations will be given to the Houston Food Bank for distribution.
