HISD Named Houston’s Greatest Nonprofit Business Organization
The Houston Independent School District will be the recognized at the Greater Houston Partnership’s fifth annual Houston’s Greatest Awards as “Houston’s Greatest Nonprofit Business Organization.” The district’s Jarrett Reid Whitaker, principal of Port Houston Elementary School, will be honored with the “Emerging Leader Award.”
The Greater Houston Partnership extravaganza will be held from 6-9 p.m. tonight, Jan. 27, at the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts, 800 Bagby St.
In choosing the “Greatest Nonprofit Business Organization,” the Greater Houston Partnership looks for a not-for-profit organization that has had a significant positive impact on the Houston region.
Other award recipients include the Reverend William Lawson (Lifetime Achievement Award), Memorial Healthcare (Houston’s Greatest Charitable Nonprofit Organization), and the Rice Alliance for Technology and Entrepreneurship (Houston’s Greatest Economic Development Ally).
“Thanks to the hard work and dedication of people like Principal Whitaker, Houston has evolved into a world-class city,” said Jeff Moseley, President and CEO, Greater Houston Partnership. “What better way to honor Principal Whitaker for his role in preparing some of the youngest members of our community to become the leaders of the next generation than with Houston’s Greatest Emerging Leader Award. Our region already boasts a highly-skilled work force. It is with educators and leaders like Principal Whitaker that we are, together, creating the work force we need to keep our region at the forefront of economic success.”
