HISD Issues Message To Parents Concerning Swine Flu
Parents of Houston Independent School District students will receive a phone call today from HISD’s Director of Health and Medical Services Evelyn Henry regarding swine flu. While no cases have been officially reported in Harris County, more than 100 people have died in Mexico due to the disease, and 40 cases have been reported in the United States, including two in Texas.
The message from Henry reminds parents that this week is TAKS testing in the district, and that it is important that students come to school. Henry advises parents that students with flu-like symptoms, especially a fever, should not come to school and should see a doctor.
Henry says no cases have been reported in the district and that the district “has procedures in place” and “constantly” stresses good hygiene with students. Parents are asked to remind students to wash their hands often and to sneeze in a tissue or their sleeve, rather than into their hands.
