HISD Hosts Parent Involvement Conference And Transition Fair This Weekend
HISD’s Office of Special Education Services will sponsor two annual district wide events on Saturday: the Parents of Preschool Children with Disabilities (PPCD) Parent Involvement Conference and the Annual Transition Fair for students with disabilities.
Both events will take place from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Hattie Mae White Educational Support Center, 4400 West 18th St.
Parents and families of children with disabilities, ages three to 21, are encouraged to attend.
- The PPCD Parent Involvement Conference for parents and families of preschool children with disabilities will provide fun, multi-sensory activities and instructional materials that parents can utilize at home to assist their children to increase developmental skills in all academic areas. Parents will also receive information about community resources for young children.
- The Transition Fair for parents and families of elementary-, middle-, and high-school students with moderate to severe disabilities can learn about available community resources and service providers that help families meet the needs of their children while they are in school and after graduation.
This year’s theme is “TEAM: Together Everyone Achieves More,” and more than 30 agencies and organizations will be on hand to present information about training and housing, employment and leisure, schooling and graduation, and other services available to Houston’s population with disabilities.
